  "I am not a number, I'm a person."

In my humble opinion this is the greatest television show ever made. Patrick McGoohan had just started filming the Forth season of the ever popular Danger man (US Title: Secret Agent) when he decided that he had done enough. So he walked into to Lew Grade's (Head of ITC) office and showed him his new idea. Grade simply said "How much do you want ?"

On a base level it was simply a very clever action/ adventure series, but it had so many levels that it went much deeper. Like it or hate it the prisoner was the essence of Cult TV and is the reason that pages like this have such a subject to cover. The prisoner laid down a gauntlet when the final episode (Fall Out) was transmitted which has only been picked up Three times since. Firstly by David Lynch's excellent Twin Peaks, then by the rather disappointing Wild Palms and most recently by the superb Nowhere Man. (Which was inspired by the prisoner) If you don't know the basis of the prisoner you can read about it in numerous books or Hundreds of sites across the internet. But as usual I am confining myself to the basics, besides which, Ten people could tell you that the prisoner was about Ten different things.

If you have not yet seen this show, I suggest you give it a watch. You won't regret it.

BE SEEING YOU!

06.11.00
Patrick McGoohan reprised his role as number 6 for The Simpsons episode 'The Computer Wore Menace Shoes'  (CABF02)  Still no news on Simian West's big budget version of 'The Prisoner' now that 'Tomb Raider' is in the can. More news here when it comes in.

25.12.99
It has just been confirmed that Simon West has been sighed to helm the big screen version of the prisoner. West's other movies includes the Nicholas Cage action movie 'Con Air' and confesses to be a fan of the 60's show and has even visited 'The Village' in wales. Although McGoohan has been working on a script for the project for some years, it will down to independent writers to script the piece and he will merely serve as executive producer. Although this entire project is a great disappointment to most prisoner fans, we can only hope for the best. No casting has yet been announced, but production should start next year.

08.07.98
There is a very nasty bit of gossip circulating that Hugh Grant is lined up to play Number Six. Let's just hope this is no more then hearsay.

03.07.98
The original prisoner has been released in a new box set in the UK to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the show. (One year late)  The new digitally re-mastered tapes have better picture and sound then anything previously released and is not bad at all.

01.07.98
The word is the script for the new prisoner film (Written by McGoohan) has been submitted to the studios and they want to make some changes, however McGoohan is not budging and is believed to be saying "Take it or leave it."
